Two more moose, huge dinner, great hike

We woke up to a 43 degree morning with gray skies and a chilly breeze and raring to go. We headed back into the Grand Teton National Park over to Teton Science School.  Leader Andy Lammers had arranged for us to park and start from this property for a three-mile hike to Coyote Rock. Beautiful 360 degree views, wildflowers were incredible, the clouds were lifting…and it was a great day. We had the trail entirely to ourselves – this is a rare thing to find in a major national park in the summer. We had lunch on and around the rock.

Our next big activity of the day was an experience in gluttony. Since no boys had ever been to Idaho and we knew of a couple of great places to eat…that’s what we did. We took the 35 minute drive from Jackson over Jackson Pass to Victor, Idaho. Leader Andy Clack knew of an extraordinary hamburger place called the Brakeman American Grill and we feasted. And if that wasn’t enough, we walked two doors away to the Victor Emporium for a world-famous milkshake. The boys earned the milkshake for getting a compliment from our hotel.

Side note – we saw two moose on this trip. One going to Victor and the other crossed right in front our vans on the way home. Since we were stopped, it was a fantastic viewing.

Great day.

I never imagined that when I started taking kids on travel trips in 1978 that I would still be taking trips today! It has been a great ride and I'm looking forward to more.

Over the years I've had the fortune to travel across the US several times, visit Canada several times, experienced Alaska, the Bahamas, Mexico, and Europe several times.
