Bern one day, the next in Barcelona

PictureHamming it up in Mulhouse, France.
We spent the the morning and most of the afternoon in Bern. Boys visited a pretty impressive church across from our hotel, a park behind our hotel, and then took off on foot to explore more of the city. Most saw the Bern "bears" - a symbol of Bern. They also visit Einstein's house (or apartment) where he lived for a couple of very important years.

We had a street food lunch of crepes which everyone enjoyed. For many it was their first crepe.

Around five this evening we boarded the first of several trains it would take for us to get from Switzerland to Spain through France. The first two trains got us to Mulhouse, France and from there we took an all-night sleeper train. These are sleeper cars with six bunks (three on each side) complete with pillow and a blanket. Nothing fancy, but a great way to get from one point to another without using up daylight. This sleeper train ended in Port Bou, Spain where we boarded a two-hour train to get us to Barcelona. It was fun having brunch from the dining car on the train.

We checked into our Barcelona hotel, the Abba Santa, which to us seems like luxury. It's four star even. This is our first hotel with air conditioning on the trip. Rooms are spacious and it's in a very convenient neighborhood. We had a great dinner just two minutes away and boys mostly chose local fare. Looking forward to a day of site-seeing on Thursday.

Check out the photos.

I never imagined that when I started taking kids on travel trips in 1978 that I would still be taking trips today! It has been a great ride and I'm looking forward to more.

Over the years I've had the fortune to travel across the US several times, visit Canada several times, experienced Alaska, the Bahamas, Mexico, and Europe several times.
