From Mountains to Mountains for Craig Jolly

Here's a photo of a good friend and former colleague Craig Jolly who is off on his own grand adventure. Craig joined us in 2009 on our Europe by Eurail trip. Here Craig is pictured in front of a restaurant bearing his family name located near the Danube River in Vienna, Austria.

Craig has decided to take a sabbatical from his teaching job and see the United States...by foot! He is walking all the way from Mt. Mitchell in North Carolina to Mt. Whitney in California.

As of today it seems he's somewhere in Tennessee after taking his first steps in July.

I know I join all the MTA participants, leaders, and his friends in wishing him safe travels and an adventure that will certainly become a legend.

You can follow Craig's progress by reading his own blog at: www.bluemountainswalking.com.

Craig Jolly came through Lafayette County, MS just 2-3 wks ago & we were fortunate to have him in our home for a few meals (one, a fried chicken dinner) to show him some South Hospitality! I asked him to be sure to tell his mother that she should be proud of the gentleman she raised.
An article was written on him in a local paper here & I can send you a copy via e-mail if you'd like, to add a copy to his file. Maybe one day he'll get to see it! He added a few rays of sunshine to our family, just getting to meet him! My husband & son are on the 4-wheeler in one of the photos on his site.
God bless you, Craig!

Hi Lisa, I would love to see that article. I would be happy to "publish" it on my facebook page where a lot of Craig's friends would see it and I could also publish it in this blog.

Craig came through Moro Bay State Park, located in south-central Arkansas this past week and me and the rest of the staff were lucky enough to have a short chat and lunch with him and I think what he is doing is AMAZING! Happy Trails my Friend!

Haven't heard any news from Craig! Can't tell even what state he is in by his pictures posted! I pray he is safe, warm & finishing up his journey or maybe getting close! Texas is a HUGE state to cover by walking! Hope he sends us confirmation of his arrival! Still praying for ya, Craig!

Craig posts some very vague blogs and he says that's by designs. He's really not interested in people knowing his exact whereabouts. But he posts regularly, so that's a good sign that he's still doing well and making progress across America. Eventually we'll see a new post with a photo saying, "Welcome to whichever state he has just entered." A lot of his recent photos have had snow, so I know he's probably hoping for an early spring.

Just wanted to know if anyone had heard from him & that he's okay! We worry...! Thanks for keeping us updated!

I met Craig later in the day, today. He was walking down a farm to market road in east Texas, south of Athens. I pulled my car over to the side of the road to ask him what his story was. He is doing fine. He said that he eats a lot of peanut butter. He said that he'd been walking for five months and was looking for a place that he could camp out for the night.

My husband and I met Craig this weekend a couple hours southeast of the Dallas/Fort Worth area in Texas. He seems to be doing very well, and it was our pleasure to share a meal and conversation with him. He was taking a few days rest there, and he seemed so at peace with his journey and thesimplistic lifestyle he was keeping while crossing the U.S.A. We will definitely keep him in our thoughts and prayers as he continues forward on his journey.

I met Mr. Jolly yesterday in Lincoln, NM. Chatted for a bit. I found him genuine and sincere. I am traveling across country also, but by car! I wish him a safe journey.

So glad Craig is doing well! Hopefully he'll be reaching his destination soon & safely! He sends post cards once in awhile! Sure would love to meet him again (in Mississippi); he left a wonderful impression & was an absolute doll, a gentleman! I pray God continues to take care of you, Craig!:-)

Mr Jolly!
Sounds like your sojourn is going exceedingly well. We have something to send to you in the mail, can you please tell us where to send it ?

GREAT idea! I'd like to send him something, too! Some little treat from Mississippi! Wish I could ship him some home fried chicken that he enjoyed while here! LOL!

Just because we've met him personally & I LOVE the photos he's taken taken along the way, I pray he one day writes a book about his adventures! I'll sure buy one of the 1st copies!

I never imagined that when I started taking kids on travel trips in 1978 that I would still be taking trips today! It has been a great ride and I'm looking forward to more.

Over the years I've had the fortune to travel across the US several times, visit Canada several times, experienced Alaska, the Bahamas, Mexico, and Europe several times.
